FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this a Zine or a Special?

Technically speaking, this is actually a Fan Made special. Zines typically feature a variety of fan made media in its various formats. The Fan Special aims to replicate DC Comics' Pride Special as a collection of short comics and pin-up posters. We use the term Zine a lot in our outreach so that we can reach a broader audience of both consumers and potential contributors.Plus... "zine" is shorter, so it fits more things!

Doesn't DC already make a Pride Special?

They do! And many people on our team are already avid fans of it. The Fan Special seeks to achieve two additional tasks: One, that DC fans get an oppertunity to make something they love - Comics! Two, to represent a broader spectrum of gender, sexuality and queer culture than we typically get to see in mainstream comic pride specials.Make no mistake - this is an homage to DC Comics and it's pride specials, not an admonishment! But there is always room for more voices.

I'm a writer... how can I contribute?

The DC PRIDE fan special already has made some amazing team-ups between writers and artists who have made absolute magic together: in fact most of last year's teams had never worked together before! Don't hesitate to join just because you don't draw - we would love to match-make!

How much will the special cost?

Our digital release is always FREE. Because the zine does not earn any income and does not pay its contributors, all writers and artists will have the option of including a tipping method. If you like what you see, we highly encourage tipping!Printed copies will be made available based on level of interest and the number of applicants.

What are the rewards for Early Access?

Everyone who signs up for Early Access (which is FREE!) will get a small bundle of digital rewards for personal use including a desktop wallpaper, a 6-pack of emotes and three icons!

CONTRIBUTOR APPLICATIONS

Submissions for the 2026 year of the DC PRIDE: Fan Zine are officially OPEN! If you would like to contribute to a celebration of your favorite LGBT characters in DC Comics, we want to hear from you. We are looking for contributors who have a story to tell through their art or writing, and are interested in helping you find collaborators that best suit your work!

Note: Although we aim to primarily feature canon queer characters, the theme of “Behind the Mask” takes primary precedent. We are interested in stories about the relationship between queer identities and secret identities, and if you need to use a queer interpretation of a character who is not queer in the canon in order to accomplish that, we are excited to see it!

ARTIST SUBMISSION

If you are an artist, you can submit your application through our google form.We are looking for:- Cover Artists
- Interior Page Artists
- Pin-Up/Poster Artists
- Physical and/or Digital Merch Artists
- Assistant Artists (inkers/colorists)

SCRIPT SUBMISSION

If you are a writer, please email your completed script to [email protected]. If your script is selected to appear in the special, you will be invited to join our discord server the same as our artists, so that you can work and communicate with the artist who will help bring your story to life.

You will need to send:- Your completed script as a PDF attachment. Consider referencing the setup of a comic script as illustrated by blambot.- At the top of your script, please include your name and email, as well as the name and email of any writing collaborators.- In your email, please include a brief summary of your story (1-2 sentences) and list all characters that make an appearance.- If you are already working with an artist to bring your script to life, please ensure that they fill out the artist application, and include their name (as written in their application) in the body of your email. Please also make sure to note if this is the only artist you wish to illustrate your script so we can evaluate the work as a unit, or if the artist listed is a preference.
