FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this a Zine or a Special?

Technically speaking, this is actually a Fan Made special. Zines typically feature a variety of fan made media in its various formats. The Fan Special aims to replicate DC Comics' Pride Special as a collection of short comics and pin-up posters. We use the term Zine a lot in our outreach so that we can reach a broader audience of both consumers and potential contributors.Plus... "zine" is shorter, so it fits more things!

Doesn't DC already make a Pride Special?

They do! And many people on our team are already avid fans of it. The Fan Special seeks to achieve two additional tasks: One, that DC fans get an oppertunity to make something they love - Comics! Two, to represent a broader spectrum of gender, sexuality and queer culture than we typically get to see in mainstream comic pride specials.Make no mistake - this is an homage to DC Comics and it's pride specials, not an admonishment! But there is always room for more voices.

I'm a writer... how can I contribute?

The DC PRIDE fan special already has made some amazing team-ups between writers and artists who have made absolute magic together: in fact most of last year's teams had never worked together before! Don't hesitate to join just because you don't draw - we would love to match-make!

How much will the special cost?

Our digital release is always FREE. Because the zine does not earn any income and does not pay its contributors, all writers and artists will have the option of including a tipping method. If you like what you see, we highly encourage tipping!Printed copies will be made available based on level of interest and the number of applicants.

What are the rewards for Early Access?

Everyone who signs up for Early Access (which is FREE!) will get a small bundle of digital rewards for personal use including a desktop wallpaper, a 6-pack of emotes and three icons!

Note: Although we aim to primarily feature canon queer characters, the theme of “Behind the Mask” takes primary precedent. We are interested in stories about the relationship between queer identities and secret identities, and if you need to use a queer interpretation of a character who is not queer in the canon in order to accomplish that, we are excited to see it!
